Today as I’m working came across some of my own notes and found this quote from Churchill, which may or may not be relevant. I read your article the other day and upon reading this quote, felt compelled to share it with you. Maybe since the USA seems to be, itself the bastard child of Britain.
The quote is from 1914, an internal debate in Parliament, when he was campaigning for an expanded military budget —
“We are not a young people with an innocent record and a scanty inheritance. We have engrossed to ourselves…an altogether disproportionate share of the wealth and traffic of the world. We have got all we want in territory, and our claim to be in the unmolested enjoyment of vast and splendid possessions, mainly acquired by violence, largely maintained by forces, often seems less reasonable to others than to us.”
