Dag 6

Today was the first really real school day. I had my core course (medical biotech and drug development), and Nordic mythology and Danish language and culture. All seemed great so far! I’m really happy that I am taking Nordic Mythology. Last semester I took all sciencey classes, which I love, but it will be nice to break it up by watching some old Viking movies. So far we have learned that the Vikings didn’t actually have horns on their helmets because that would be impractical. Looking forward to updating you all on the Vikings. Tomorrow I have a class about diabetes and another class called “Epigenetics and the Environment” The reading for the Epigenetics class was so interesting that it felt like I did when I was a little kid binge reading the “I wonder why encyclopedia. ” I really like the idea that we have some control over our bodies and that not everything is determined only by our DNA. Quote from book in picture “ DNA is the secular version of the soul” epigenetics is poetic.

Had a great dinner with Jesper and Serena. Lise had a meeting with other doctors so she could not eat with us. Jesper made chicken cordon blue and we talked about IKEA the entire dinner. Lise came to the table as we were finishing dinner and they started listing the items in their house that were IKEA (every item in the house). Lise gave Jesper a glare when he suggested that the shelves in our rooms were not IKEA. She insisted that they were until he agreed. She really really loves IKEA. She was appalled that I have never been there and so was Serena. Now Serena and I may stay in an IKEA hotel for a night in Sweden with some other friends. I didn’t know that IKEA hotels were a thing but that could be fun.

Danish word(s) of the day: hi hi= goodbye
