It really felt like a Sunday today because I did homework! After homework I went for a run and then, Lise, Serena, Jesper, our other nearby homestay friends (Tine, Kirsten and Taylor), and I went to the “Scout House” to set up the DIS “Jumpstart” event. The “Scout House” is a little club house for kids in the “Scouts.” The “Scouts” is basically boy scouts and girl scouts combined. Lise and Jesper grew up as Scouts in this particular Scout House. Their daughter will be getting married in the church next door to it soon. The “Jumpstart”event was designed to get all of the nearby DIS students living in homestays and their hosts together. Jesper, Lise and Tine really went above and beyond planning for this. Jesper came up with 8 different challenges that each team had to complete in order to receive an ingredient from that challenge. Once each team completed all of the challenges, the ingredients were used to make a cake. It was Leslie Knope caliber. One of the challenges was to cut a carton of high hanging cream out of a tree using milk crates to create a platform to reach the cream (photo above). Another challenge was to build a tent and then fit a bunch of students inside of the tent for at least 10 seconds. After the Cake decorating and eating, we played Bingo. I won some chocolate, not because I got Bingo but because the person next to me did, and apparently the people on either side of the winner also get prizes! Jesper, Lise and Tine worked really hard to organize everything for the event. I am positive that it was the best jumpstart event that DIS has ever had. Serena, Kirsten, Taylor and I enjoyed helping them set up. We are becoming pretty close. Tine made a Facebook group for us called “We are simply the best.”
