What I Won’t Do for You

I have been a shiny appliance
Used and slammed and kicked
Admired until broken
Carried to the curb for the dumping lot
Replaced by a shiny new thing.
I have abandoned two homes
A set of dishes with bright coral edging
From my mother
Cracked but still useful
To save what was left of myself.
