Yoga is said to be Hindu spiritual discipline which consists of breathing and meditation in appropriate body postures. Nowadays it is being widely practiced all over the world for the health of the body and relaxation process.

We use to think that having a day out with friends and going for shopping or movie will make our mood and mind relax and refreshed but it is not so, in fact, it enhances a biochemical tension in our body. Biochemical tension means something related to stress. Stress is the way our body responds to anything that we recognize and interpret it.

So for better relaxation of our body, we need to shift from this biochemical tension state to calm state of mind. And for this, a deep breathing practice is required which involve both brain and body to take deep rest, relaxation and peace of mind. This can be only done through a mind-body practice called ‘Yoga’.

1.Improves Parasympathetic Nervous System

Yoga helps in improving your parasympathetic nervous system. This system lies on the opposite side of the spectrum and is known as “rest and digest”. With the efficient and smooth running of this system, your digestion gets better, reduce your blood pressure and make your nerves settle at peace. As a result, it will lead you to have a balanced life.

2.Boost Up Intelligence

The daily Asana practice of yoga helps in building a connection between GABA (neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid) and brain cells. The lower the level of GABA, the higher will be the level of anxiety and depression. With this increased connection, more brain cells will come in contact with each other and the brain will work more effectively. Thereby, all these results in increased intelligence of a person.

3.Reduction Of Stress

After the Yoga session, your brain releases all good energy and feelings. This peaceful session will make you more creative and you will less anxious than before. Yoga helps in decreasing the level of cortisol (hormone related to stress and fear). Meditation and yoga are said to be great medicine for the one who is suffering from mental illness. They gain numerous mental benefits. Everyone through this process achieves a happy and satisfied life.

4.Reduction In Pain

Not only you achieve a calm peace of mind but also it makes your body stronger. After doing yoga your body will be in a better position to prevent and recover from any kind of injury. The calmness you achieved through yoga will reduce your sensitivity to physical pain. So anyone can have these benefits by daily yoga practice.

5.Improve Self Awareness

Other benefits of yoga are that your brain will be able to concentrate well and helps you to realize your worth. You will start having a solid sense of self. With the increasing days of practice, your self-confidence will reach to a higher level and soon you will start performing better in whichever field you are.

No doubt there is numerous physical benefits of yoga but the mental benefits are the important one. Mental benefits cannot be easily found in many forms of exercises. Through yoga only, it has become possible to derive the mental benefits along with physical benefits from this daily practice. So don’t wait, get up in the morning, place your mats in your garden and be ready to travel to the land of peace.
