No, Jo, generally speaking a therapist should not tell you that you are “controlling and manipulative.” It is not a diagnosis. And if they are correct, it is not a communication that would be well-received by the client, therefore it would be ineffective. It could be counter-transference, in which case the therapist should definitely process their feelings with a supervisor.
