At ten days into the New Year, I’m not so proud to announce that 2016 has included two of the worst days I’ve had in a long time. And for the first time in maybe ever, I’ve felt as though my negative feelings towards what happened lingered for more hours (or days) than it should have. But thankfully, I read this quote some time ago and it came back to me in my time of need.

“Don’t ruin a good today because of a bad yesterday.”

I realized then that no, not everything is going to go our way all of the time. Even though we’d like it to. And I feel as though these bad days, or experiences, or trials, are testing points. They are meant to test us, to see how we will react, to help us grow, and learn.

Just like the quote says, we shouldn’t waste a perfectly good day because of something that happened yesterday. Yesterday was the past and the past is not meant to be lived in! Each day is a new start at life. A new beginning. A new opportunity to be something incredible. We shouldn’t ruin that. We should do everything that lies in our power to make each day a good one. To make each day count.

After having had time to reflect on my bad fortune, I wish now that I could go back and change the way I reacted. There is no fulfillment in being negative, over-reacting, staying heart broken, breaking down, throwing a pity party, or anything of that nature. I would have felt so much better as a human being had I been happy and optimistic, filled with hope or courage, when caught in these tough scenerios. But life as we know it, doesn’t come with any re-do buttons. As I don’t believe it should. Instead, we admit we aren’t perfect, and we move on. But in a better, more fulfilling way this time, having learned our lessons.

“Forget yesterday. It has already forgotten you. Don’t sweat tomorrow. You haven’t even met. Instead, open your eyes, and your heart to a truly precious gift; today.” -Unknown

We don’t have to be hurt. We don’t have to get upset. Everything is a choice. And the choice is ALWAYS ours.

Your life is yours to live. To make it a good one, make yourself good. Look for the good. Be the good. And good will always follow you. Good will move right on in and find a place in your home. And in your heart.
