Very true. We seem to obsess over formalities way more than we should. I see a parallel of this ever evolving process in all types of creative work. Even with music, we seem so eager to define music by a certain genre, while the more experimental ones are given “alternative” or “future” labels to it - which already puts them at the bottom of the ladder. You can imagine what this implies for survival in the music industry. To a certain extent, formalities halt creativity.
