Last week team Sylo travelled to Malaysia for a round of meet ups. Here’s what we found…

Describe the blockchain community of Kuala Lumpur (KL) in three words…

D: Wide Eyed Conservatism.

Where was the meetup held and how was your presentation received?

D: The meetup was held at Colony@KLCC, a hyper-modern co-working space based in the heart of KL city.

For this meetup we focused on showing our decentralised app in action, covering the range of functionality, integrations and potentials for use across a range of use cases.

A lot of interest was yielded from the audience particularly around how our DApp and protocol could be leveraged within various project use cases across a number of industries.

Any special feedback or realisations that made your day?

D: A number of interesting conversations were started (within the very short in and out 24-hour trip!) that we will now be following through on, and working with the parties we established connections with, to support our market entry strategies for Sylo across Asia.

What are you most excited about that’s happening at Sylo right now?

D: The broad interest and buy in we are seeing across almost every region we’re exposing the project to.

Also the different elements that are getting engagement — it’s not always the same features or integration opportunities that hit the mark. Different segments from different regions are seeing potential from various areas of our developments as we’re travelling around.

It’s been a big year so far — with the team having visited Japan, Korea, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, and the USA. Not bad for a Kiwi born project.

What’s the appetite like for decentralised technology in Malaysia?

D: It’s a mixed bag for sure.

There is a lot of interest in engaging the technology and what it can mean for the mainstream user, and a broad set of more specific use cases.

However this is also balanced with modesty around elements such as fund raising and tokenisation, due to a moving regulatory framework in the country.

What’s your favourite thing about the city of KL?

D: It’s a 24-hour eating town. Doesn’t matter if it’s 3pm or 3am, you’ll find a good meal!

How was Blocfest Conference?

D: Yes it was a good event, managed to pop in for half a day at the Shangri-La hotel before our evening meetup event.

I only managed to hit a couple of presentation sessions due to the number of conversations we got pulled into.

We had some particularly interesting dialogues with the NEM team, who are focused on enabling global enterprise blockchain solutions in a big way.

Did you learn anything new on this trip? If so, what?

D: There are some definite, select, deep pockets of buy-in and high potential work being conducted around blockchain technologies across Malaysia, with a global perspective in mind, being driven largely out of KL. Something we definitely got exposed to this trip.

More coming from Dorian soon!
