SNAPCHAT: BUILDING A NEW AND YOUNG AUDIENCE

Is Snapchat just a fad? Not for teenagers. According to a recent infographic from Fluent, 61% of users aged 18–24 prefer Snapchat over Instagram Stories. Snapchat has become a popular platform especially among teens (ages 13–17) using it as a communication tool with their friends.

As they users, Snapchat itself is young. It’s still growing. That could be an advantage when it comes to marketing your next movie because we’re talking about a space that is still underpriced.

Now, the thing with Snapchat is that it’s not for everyone. It’s a very useful platform but only for certain people and certain movie projects.

As I said before, we’re talking about a young platform so the best way you can make use of it is if you have a pre-existing audience on other platforms.

What I mean by this is you have to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media where you have built an audience to get them to follow you on Snapchat since there’s no discovery with in Snapchat itself.

If you’re going to jump to the Snapchat world because your target audience are teenagers, you must think how you’re going to use your website, your email, your Facebook Fan Page, your advertising in other places to drive people towards your movie account and then having a creative strategy within it for your stories.

If you have done your homework and actually know the behavior of your audience, you’ll realize that they want quality content every single minute, literally. So you have to put a compelling story which consists of at least 5 videos and 2 pictures 24/7, 365 days a year.

Yep! It’s a lot of work. But here is the interesting thing. This is not just about building a new audience, it’s about what audience are we getting their attention. We’re talking about millennials and mostly the Gen Z, a group of consumers that in a very near future will have the power to purchased anything.

So, if you are patient enough and play your cards right, you will be building a powerful group of followers and active users of your brand.

The content is always king so use your creative talent as filmmaker and keep making incredible stories. Create new content, then download a piece of it, and then upload it on your other channels so when people see it in a Facebook post or in a tweet, they get so excited about what else is there? It compels them to go follow it.

As I said before in my other posts is imperative to storytelling properly on the platform you are using, respecting the context and the psychology of why people are in where they are at that time. What we put on Instagram isn’t gonna to be what we put on Snapchat. We only must use the other channels as distribution for it, to build that base and then we go back to going native and really driving success.
