Entering the rainy season, it is raining and pouring. However, don’t let it put you off having fun. Shenzhen has a wealth of amazing things to do. If you are looking for break a sweat, visiting Shenzhen Museum is the best indoor experience.

The best thing to do when travelling in a city is to visit the local museum, and you can learn the history of a city from the experience. Shenzhen Museum was established in 1981, and there are three floors.

The First floor

This floor contains Thematic Exhibition Hall, Multi-media Reference Centre and Guide Tour Service Room. The Thematic Exhibition Hall is for staging thematic exhibitions on researching, exhibiting and public educating. From now to 22 July, it is holding a “Pan Yuliang’s(潘玉良) paintings” exhibition. The exhibition is featuring 110 paintings by Pan Yuliang (1895–1977), a legendary Chinese painter renowned as the first woman in the country to paint in the Western style. Besides, almost all the exhibits are dual-translated, so tourists will find plenty to read here.

The Second floor

This floor contains Ancient Shenzhen Exhibition Hall, Modern Shenzhen Exhibition Hall, and the Shenzhen Yolk Culture Exhibition Hall. It likes a walk through the history of Shenzhen. Ancient Shenzhen Exhibition Hall shows more than 6,000 years’ history of human activities and marine development. Shenzhen Yolk Culture Exhibition Hall

shows the migration history of Cantonese and Hakka people. The Hakka are believed to have originated in the central regions of China. To escape a calamity, they traveled southward and settled down in Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong provinces. This resulted in Shenzhen being populated by a lot of Hakka so that they made up half the city. The culture of conservative and hard-working Hakka people, focus on educating their children and remain faithful to their roots and unique culture, became the spirit of Shenzhen. It gives great insight into the lives of the local Shenzhen people and how Hakka culture affected them.

The Third floor

This floor contains The exhibition Hall of the Reform and Opening — up History in Shenzhen, The exhibition Hall of Shenzhen Before the reform and Opening-up. It shows Shenzhen’s reform and opening-up history. It was a story of change, Shenzhen which is the China’s first special economic zone established via the patronage of the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping is a pioneering and innovative city. It is in the vanguard of China’s reforms and opening up to the rest of the world. s China’s first special economic zone, Shenzhen began to open up to the rest of the world in 1980, and became one of the country’s major channels of communication with the outside world. In its short history of 30 years, Shenzhen has developed from a small fishing village into a modern city with a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita which gives it premier ranking in China. This is a remarkable achievement, notable in the annals of urbanization, industrialization and modernization across the globe.

To sum up, it’s a great museum with fantastic history, science and geography exhibits. It engages the visitors, foster deeper understanding and promote how sweeping the change has been in this place, and sharing of authentic cultural and natural heritage.
