There is a new phenomena , which accompanies the slow waking consciousness that is growing on this planet day by day, and some of undercurrent is very new ways and means of doing business.
I think almost anyone can agree that in the modern day and age (or maybe it’s just me), one of the biggest challenges we face in our quest for self realism and authenticity is how do we align our core essence with the very real everyday challenges; the simple need of a roof over our heads, food on the table and a internet connection — at the least — these like so much in our world come at a price, and while me might not awake everyday with the interest of playing the economic game that is currently being played, it doesn't always feel like we have much of a choice. Yet, if no one starts experimenting with what is possible we’ll remain trapped in the old paradigm where is money is power to few, enslavement to many — are there other possibilities?…. Let’s see.
While last in the USA, I was pleasantly surprised at a small movement in paying it forward, whether it be a meal or a coffee, websites are popping up all over the place to share ideas and score brownie points for doing so. Another idea of ways to pay, was sliding scale fees, a the fee for consultation/ massage might be $70, however you can opt or ask to pay less depending on your personal circumstances at the time. I saw many holistic practitioners offering this one, which I loved this as it allows someone who is going through a difficult time some financial leeway — who doesn't need that once and awhile. There are simply moments in life where we might have more money near pay day, or less while looking for work, extra again when working — not all of us have the everyday security day in and day out, and if we do at some point it’s not to say it might last forever.
Something I do in my own business for the Reiki Energy healing, is offer the Pay what you feel is right (pay what it’s worth to you and what you can), it’s not to say it’s free nor that what I offer has no value, not at all — however I am not comfortable in charging someone who is seriously ill / recovering from an injury — who may already be out of pocket thanks to excessive medical costs, or that might not have felt the energy or healing. My objective is to heal, help and serve — this is not voluntary service, it’s an energy exchange and I’d like to have people feel comfortable with what they've paid, not ripped off. So I’d appreciate if they let me know what it was worth to them, and what they can pay what it is worth to them, as everyone’s situation differs and is unique. I do see where and how some people feel uncomfortable with this, as it’s new it will take time for people to have to think for themselves what it might be worth to them, however I do long for the day when we can all put a price to the products and services before us — dependent on where we are financially and what it is worth to us. And this requires a certain amount of honesty, trust and integrity too, as it’s not about taking advantage, we all realize there are costs and people need to make a living etc. And I am not the only one as Long white cloud offers Qi gong classes along the same lines and writes a fab blog about what he calls ‘gives freely receive freely’ that I very much resonate with, so check it out. Even a restaurant in Melbourne asks you to pay what you can, the story behind it is super inspiring: Lentil as Anything, Shanaka’s tedex talk is worth watching….
I've also been watching and greatly admire Lilou Mace video blogs, she lives, travels and works by the donations received by all those that watch her videos and support her work — as it relays the ultimate trust in the universe and move naturally forward while being so true to what feels right to your own self.
Even my favorite Guesthouse was on board in July offering readers of their newsletter the option to pay what they thought the room and breakfast were worth! On top of this, I've recently also downloaded the book ‘Reinventing Organizations’ by an Interviewee of Lilou’s Fredric Laloux, you are free to download the book read it and then choose what to pay.. I’ve just downloaded it, and am so loving it so much it’s going to cost me an arm and a leg! It outlines some of the dated ways of doing business and looks and researches possible new ways… of quiet a few businesses that are already doing this — it’s so inspiring, and breaks down all the preset ideals of what a business needs to be — we can define the rules, break them or even come up with new ones, the world and everything is flexible and adaptable, I guess the question is: Are we?? I recommend the book to anyone who is curious to know that more about new ways of doing business.
Without a doubt more and more people are waking up and seeing that the old paradigms are no longer serving us, and the biggest challenge as we leap from the old in to the new, is that we can’t always see where we will be landing; what will this future will look like? what are going to be the game changers? and will there be business in a world where we can truly be our authentic selves? do we know what it is to be true to ourselves and to be able to contribute to the society and the world at large without having to be enslaved by something as small and insignificant as a few electronic/ paper digits that we are now calling money? I do at times get a glimpse of this world, and its potential for greatness, and at times I am swept away by the everyday reality of what’s going on around me that I know no longer feels like it aligns with the level of growing consciousness of my life. I don’t believe I am alone in this, and will keep striving to break the binds, and keeping attempting to live and exist beyond what might have once been thought of as impossible, a world without the money.
