For those who don’t know Euphoria is a tv series that tells a story regarding a group of teenagers where they face numerous problems in terms of relationship, drugs, mental health, family, and more.

In my opinion, I admire this tv series because it discusses issues that affect practically everyone but which the media rarely shows or cares about. They even talk about a nuanced issue.

Kat’s Back Story

(played by Barbie Ferreira) initially struggles with body image and then a video of her and a boy from another school in a compromising situation got spread, at first she was scared if other people will know if in the video it turns out to be her.

She soon discovers that she possesses an ability that has yet to be unleashed. She started to feel confident, she took on a secret part time job to become a cam girl, where she video chats with (usually) a much older man.

Kat’s story is inspirational. I have to admit her behavior is not a hundred percent perfect and not all of her actions are suitable of being followed, but her character also teaches valuable things.

It’s about self-confidence.

Kat “Love Yourself” Scene

In Euphoria S02E02, there’s a scene where Kat resting on her bed feeling insecure about her looks, then a woman appeared in her room praising Kat said “I wish I had your confidence” “you just have to love yourself” and many more women started saying something similar “everyday you get out of bed, that’s an act of courage “ “you need to love yourself” “love yourself”.

They were forcing her to love herself. Yeah of course I see from the other perspective, women supporting women, positive message regarding your body. But the meaning behind this scene is they show how hypocritical influences alter one’s brain without addressing their own behavior. That’s toxic positivity and false feminism.

They keep telling her to love herself and she screamed that she f*cking hated herself, how is she supposed to lover herself when she hated herself? They were telling her to not care about society and what society think, how? I find it hard to believe just to ignore society standards and how they will always judge you if you don’t fit in.

When the social media influencers that look like models and live in mansion are telling regular people not to feel bad about themselves as they flaunt their lifestyles and appearances, show just how toxic it is that makes up the body positivity movement.

This scene really hit home, because no matter how many people encourage us to love ourself, we just can’t.

Thank you for reading ❤
