Bosa vs. the Chargers — One dude’s take

So shit just got real with the whole Joey Bosa — San Diego Chargers fiasco. The Chargers put out their “best” offer and in return, received a decline. So to defend their own brand, they put out a statement letting the public know how far they were willing to go. I read it. And as confused as I have been with this situation, it automatically made me dislike how Bosa and his agent were handling the situation.

Then I did a little more research and realized that most teams either give in on the offset or deferred payment. Chargers are not willing to give in on either. Again, I was left even more confused. Who the f**k is to blame?

So I decided to just think about it all one more time. Let’s start with this damn offset rule. Basically, it stops the player (Bosa) from double dipping on pay if the Chargers decide to drop him prior to him finishing his 5-year contract. Chances of him being dropped if he’s as good as advertised…highly unlikely. There is the potential of injury, and hearing about his dad and uncle’s past injury-prone NFL careers, I understand the fear. That being said, if any regular working professional was let go from their job, they would not get paid for the rest of the year. If they get hired elsewhere, they do not get double salary. Only if, right? Oh, and did I mention, no other Charger player has this offset rule taken off…not Rivers, not Gates and not Allen.

Now for deferred payments. Everyone wants their money right here and right now. I get it. But whether you get it by December 2016 or March 2017, how much of a difference can it really make? You could make some potential interest on the money for the extra few months, but c’mon man! Plus the Chargers came up to 85% of the signing bonus to be paid this calendar year.

So what is this fan’s thoughts? Honestly, I am just as confused as before. It is hard to know who is to blame. It’s easy for me to blame the organization as they seem to screw everything up. Shit, they may be gone after this year so that makes it even easier to blame them and kick them in the ass before they leave. But, I think I will put the blame on Bosa’s camp. If Rivers, the franchise QB and the key player on the roster has the offset language, then why the hell should Bosa get that taken off? And waiting a few months for 15% of the bonus, just man up and play some ball.

Bosa is hurting the team. Other players are depending on him. Fans are depending on him.

I am probably 100% incorrect. Hell, I’m so confused that I’m not even sure what I’m talking about. I can’t tell who’s telling the truth and who’s just trying to save face. Everyone is going to have their own point of view, some in support of the Chargers and some for Bosa. All I know is that fans need and want this to be resolved. We are sick of the bullshit that we have to deal with as Charger fans. Shitty seasons. Shitty coaches. Shitty injuries. Shitty stadium talks. Shitty moves. And shitty contract disputes.

Let’s just play some damn football and try to get an 8–8 season.
