I first met Natalie Dillon on a panel at Stanford, where we were discussing career options and paths with undergraduates. Natalie’s easy attitude, precise answers, and sincere demeanor stood out to me, and from that day an ongoing relationship came easily. Almost two years later, Natalie joined Maveron as a Senior Associate, and today, we’re excited to announce that she has been promoted to Principal.

Natalie perfectly represents what it means to be a member of the Maveron team. Maveron co-founder and partner, Dan Levitan, said it best, “All of us at Maveron are excited to see Natalie get promoted to Principal. Natalie embodies our core values and fosters great relationships with entrepreneurs. …

Hi everyone, I’m a Libra with a Sagittarius moon. That means that I am fundamentally oriented towards fairness and justice, see both sides of every situation, do what I say and get a lot done, and am well-dressed. I think most of that holds true, and my extended family would be especially proud of me opening with this descriptor. I grew up in an Indian household where my mother and relatives prescribed to Hindu astrology, where my horoscope was read every year (followed by specific religious rituals to thwart any bad luck), and where superstition ruled logic. Needless to say, my scientific and mathematical brain rejected it all and no one who knows me would expect me to introduce myself as a Libra with a Sagittarius moon. …

I often find myself in communities I wasn’t born into but communities that are nonetheless welcoming and open. Whether that is the Black community or Jewish community, friends who are Muslim or those welcoming me into a world of art and creators. I am grateful for the ability to participate in these worlds in whatever small way, and think they bring us all closer together. In that spirit, I want to share with you all that today is Diwali, or Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights. Deepavali is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil and enlightenment over ignorance. …

Maveron is proud to announce our series A investment in Spyce, a new type of restaurant with a robotic kitchen that is leveraging technology to create delicious, healthy meals with very affordable prices. Co-founders Michael Farid, Kale Rogers, Luke Schlueter, and Brady Knight started the company three years ago while studying engineering at MIT.

Spyce is using a robot to automate the process of cooking and Maveron is betting on the early promise of automation as it continues to present itself in a myriad of ways. The automobile industry is a mature example of how implementing automation has transformed profitability; in fact this sector is continuing to innovate with autonomous driving and other disruptive technology-driven trends and, according to a 2016 study by McKinsey & Company, the sector is slated to reach over a trillion dollars in revenue by 2030. …

At Maveron we believe that world-class founders who put their customers first build long-lasting, venture scale consumer companies that persist and withstand the test of time. We are thoughtful about surrounding ourselves with the right people who believe that to their very core, and who are obsessed with finding the next breakout consumer-tech brands. We believe that the business of venture, which we are so fortunate to be in, demands integrity, hard work, and curiosity. We are excited to announce today that in the winding journey that venture can be, our paths have crossed with that of our newest team member, Natalie Dillon. Natalie is a proud San Francisco native and Stanford grad. She’s someone with knack for community building and a drive to win. …

Today we are thrilled to announce our series A investment in a Toronto based company, Inkbox. Inkbox is a creative ecosystem that delivers confidence to consumers with their tattoo decisions. Inkbox offers an artist marketplace in addition to ink for custom tattoo drawing. Through Inkbox, people have access to a wide variety of semi permanent tattoos, pre designed and custom.

To start off, some fun facts, the tattoo parlor industry is a $3B industry, quickly growing, yet the space remains fragmented, unbranded, difficult to assess or access, and often restricted to the fringe. At the same time, we see that there are not only more tattoo parlors than Starbucks locations, but that nearly 40% of millennials have tattoos, and virtually every sports star, celebrity, and influencer can be found proudly showing off body art. …
