Hey Atiba, wonderful post. It resonated with me in so many ways. I too was essentially writing about self-improvement, productivity and career but I was feeling more restricted everyday. Feeling like I wasn’t able to share different ideas which I still felt where worth sharing.
Then, I posted an article named “No dude, It wasn’t a Date”. That article is one of my most successful ones and lead me to new followers who enjoyed different topics.
I think we should be thinking about blogging less like a business and more like social media made of PEOPLE. And the honest truth is PEOPLE don’t care as much as we do if the positioning is right, if the branding is perfect, if this article fits the niche or not. People just want VALUE out of what they’re reading.
I also believe people are now, more than ever, attracted to transparency, honesty. Only writing about a very specific topic I think it also kind of conveys you are censoring yourself to the audience. You are building this perfect image as a writer about X.
