This world contains lots and lots of people in terrible debt, so trust me when I say you are not alone. Almost half (scary statistic) of all small business people use debt to fund their business purchases and more than 40% of Americans are carrying debt that’s dinging their ability to live well and save. So what to do? I wrote a book for people who hate numbers and never liked math — a five minute a day plan called “The Debt-Free Spending Plan.” I think it would help you. It’s not dry — it’s written for those of us who check out when it comes to our finances, or who fear that if we look deeply into our money we will never have another fulfilled want the rest of our lives. So I built the Plan on WANTS as well as NEEDS, on proportional spending for all the things that make a good life. My new book, “How to Be an Artist Without Losing Your Mind, Your Shirt or Your Creative Compass” (May 2016) takes those same principles and broadens them to living a creative, entrepreneurial life. So are you stuck forever in debt and tied to your job. No. As long as you do something about it now. Don’t wait. Don’t add to your debt. Instead think, “Creativity, not credit cards,” and begin to chart a new course. Hope this helps. JoAnneh Nagler at www.AnArtistryLife.com.
