Constrained Creativity

We are self-isolated and yet we keep doing the same things as each other. We keep following a structure that has been provided to us by someone else. We are so used to being constrained that we seek it out.

We are currently being constrained in more ways than just being instructed to stay home. Or forced to stay home in some cases, either that is a force enacted by a police body that had been waiting for its moment to shine or by circumstances too gruesome and multi-layered to get into.

To say capitalism is currently on hold would be a grandiose exaggeration, yet nevertheless, we find ourselves with fewer options for expenditure either that is of energy or money. Time, however, some of us have got aplenty. We’ve been put on furlough, we’ve had our pubs and restaurants closed, the gyms are shut, our car needs to remain in the driveway, our friends are being as careful as we are and our families are miles away. And the clock ticks.

This is not a motivational post that urges you to make the most of your newfound time. In fact, let me clarify, time we should have had aplenty, but yet somehow we still don’t? Have you noticed this? Where do the hours go? This is a post for people who want to use their ample creativity and have found that they just can’t. Almost as if something essential is missing.
