Trapped. Useless. Helpless. These are some of the thoughts that twirl in my mind on the most difficult of days in isolation. Perhaps in yours too. This is a normal reaction to what is an entirely foreign situation to some of us. For the first time in our lives, we are not completely free.

But what if I were to tell you that your sense of freedom is largely a frame of mind rather than a feeling based on a physical reality?

I have always been quite conscious of the way my freedoms are restricted. I am supposedly a free citizen, who before isolation however, would have not been free to go for a run in the park at 3am, who would have not been allowed in certain clubs, who would have not been as free to follow their dreams as someone with 10K more in the bank.

Invisible forces bind us in our social behaviour and creative endeavours. Either it’s gender, socio-economic background, education, race, an intersection, not one of us was as free as we thought before isolation. You are free because you felt free.
