I am not taking out from a text book and posting this. I have worked apart from my regular designation, in a designation called ‘Liaison Officer’, given to me to work as a ‘go between’ between the government and the company for the purpose of monitoring the implementation of the statutes that existed in connection with three category of people, based on caste, tribe and differently abled. For women there was another person to ensure the common theme of D&I. It’s based on this these views are being shared, because unless one goes to point of use details, solution would dodge us !
Some would not have worked with people of other category ; within themselves they work sharing tacit, implicit and explicit knowledge. It is the sharing of tacit knowledge with a new comer they would be hesitant about; another aspect is about the chain of different activities threaded together to provide a service or a product and when a new person enters the chain they would be worried whether that person would become a weak point in the chain. These worries must be addressed too.
I stayed in the role of promoting D&I for a long time, watching many CEOs come and go; and people in other designations and departments too. It’s in long period of sticking to the role that I understood the importance of authority, accountability, availability, eligibility, suitability, interpretations, sustainability, continuity, patience, vision, tactics, diplomacy, respect, importance of implementation and so on. The longer you stay in the role the better proficient you are and reliable and respected by all. These aspects have to be extracted from experience and applied at right time steadfast pursuing the goal. You will succeed and it is a common good, you serving as a catalyst!
