STANCE
WHY STANCE? STANCE LIKE NAIL IN THE BOARD. STANCE HELPS WE DEFINE HOW WE MOVE, CONTRARY TO THE BELIEVE OF THE STATIC-ISH POSTURE.
LET’S TALK ABOUT DIVERSITY. MOVEMENT BETWEEN STANCES — OR THE TRANSITION — OR THE SHIFTING OF BODY AND LIMBS AND EYE — ARE DIFFERENT FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE. AS THE BASIS OF MOVEMENT, IT FORMS THE DISTINCTION OF EVERY METHOD. WITHOUT THAT BASIS, WE NOLONGER RECOGNIZE WHAT IS THE SOUL OF THE MOVES AND HENCE VERY DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND WHAT IS GOING ON THERE.
LIKE FRAME TO THE PICTURE. LIKE NAIL TO THE WOODBOARD. STANCE DEFINE HOW WE MOVE. LIKE TWO SIDES OF A COIN, STANCE BRINGS THE STATIC-NESS TO THE DYNAMIC OF MOVEMENT, AND COMPLETE IT.
SEI PING PAT FAN (FOUR EQUAL EIGHT DIVIDE) IS THE BASIS OF ALL BASIS. IT IS NOT MEANT FOR ATTACKING ANY ONE. IT IS THE MOST STABLE ONE. THE ‘STABLE’ MEANING OF FROM HERE YOU CAN SWITH TO ANY OTHER STANCE WITH THE SHORTED TIME AND EFFORT.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE MOST EFFORT THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO MAKE WHILE MOVING?
NOT LIFTING ARMS OR LEGS, NOT TWISTING THEIR TORSO OR SHOULDER.
THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE THAT OUR BODY HAS TO DEAL WITH WHEN MAKING AMOVEMENT IS TO LIFT OUR CENTER MASS OF GRAVITY (CMG). WITH PROPER STANCES WE TRY TO MINIMIZE THIS, OR IN OUR MOVEMENTS, THE CMG BARELY RAISED OR LOWERED. IF YOU CAN FIND ONE STANCE THAT IS CAPBLE OF DOING THIS, IT IS FOUR EQUAL STANCE.
FOR THAT REASON, WE ALWAYS START FROM THIS SPECIFIC STANCE FOR ALL OF OUR MOVEMENTS.
→ TORTOISE RUN
→ STAND UP
→ CROSS CHECK FOR FOUR EQUAL STANCE
→ SHIFTING TO ALL OTHER STANCES
