..erm yes, that Britain is a net importer (i.e. we have a negative balance of payments deficit) is not news to us remainers. What is mind boggling is that leavers use that as a reason to leave the EU. Are you seriously suggesting that our imports will cost less if we dismiss the suppliers conveniently on our doorstep and start importing the stuff we need from the other side of the world? You haven’t thought it through have you?

Here’s the real low down. Right now, Britain doesn’t make anything. Well it doesn’t make anything that isn’t destined for the EU market like Asian badged cars, which, well you quitters have already nailed the coffin shut on. The only way post-Brexit for Britain to maintain it’s economic well-being is to switch from being a net importer of goods to becoming a net exporter of goods. It’s very unlikely in today’s globally competitive environment that this will be possible. British workers will need to compete on a level playing field with Chinese factory workers whose average wage is about $3.50 per hour. The pound will have to remain low, possibly much lower than it is already until British manufactured goods start outselling the Chinese (which could take sometime) . Meanwhile, the UK (which before long looks like just becoming just England and Wales) will be chasing new trade deals with the rest of the world, while the EU is already fifty years ahead in the game, recently finalising trade deals with Canada, Japan and imminetly with Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.

Worst of all, the notion of bringing back ‘control’ is, in reality, handing it to the likes of Johnson, Gove, Mogg, Truss, Cleverly etc, a bunch of the most ignorant, stupid, self-serving prigs ever seen in the British political class. What I’m saying then is, I think we’ll have to agree to differ.
