Me @ THE BOYZ World Tour [THE B-ZONE in Seoul Encore]

Hello, I’m Dinar, an Indonesian navigating the dynamic world of South Korea’s creative industry. Over the past 12 years, my fascination with Korean culture and language has evolved from a small dream to talk in fluent Korean with my favorite K-Pop idols during my middle school days to a deep academic pursuit. I immersed myself in Korean Studies, earning my bachelor’s degree before pursuing my Master’s degree in Korean media and fandom studies at a graduate school in Korea.

Throughout these years, I also worked as a Korean-Indonesian freelance translator, further enriching my connection with both cultures. Today, with nearly two years of experience in two Korean companies (after getting my MA), I proudly maintain my identity as a K-Pop enthusiast alongside my professional journey.

Some people around me said I’m living the dream of living and working in Korea, while spending my time going to my favorite singers’ concerts. But in reality, I’m just a twenty-something who loves to be playful and has to balance work and play.

When I first embarked on this adventure, the allure of Korea’s vibrant music scene and the prospect of witnessing my favorite K-Pop idols perform live were the driving forces behind my decision moving to South Korea. It was a dream that many fellow international fans could only envy from afar, and I felt incredibly grateful to be in a position to turn it into a reality.

However, what they didn’t see was the hustle and grind that came with it. Behind the scenes, there were early mornings, late nights, and deadlines to meet at graduate school, then work. I quickly learned that making a life in a foreign country was not all about the glitz and glamour of going to concerts, enjoying the music. It involved adapting to a new culture, navigating the complexities of stuffs I have to do, and juggling responsibilities that came with adulthood.

But here’s the secret: It’s not a choice between one or the other — work or play. It’s about finding the delicate balance between them. Living in Korea has taught me the importance of managing my time effectively, setting priorities, and cherishing every moment — whether it’s witnessing an electrifying stage performance or savoring a splendid evening with friends.

In this blog, I will take you on a journey through the ups and downs of my as a K-Pop fangirl turned expat in Korea. I’ll share the challenges, the triumphs, and the unforgettable moments that have shaped my adventure.

So, buckle up, because it’s time to discover the real story behind the fangirl who dared to live her dream in the heart of K-Pop culture, Seoul.
