I’m confused, first there were collections and then they automatically become publications, now there are collections again? What’s the difference between the two and should publications now focus on making collections?

I’m thinking collections are meant to be like the original collections, and publications are meant for more business/community? Are the new collections a way for people to categorize content essentially so Medium’s algorithms know how to better serve people?
