Time Zones: Things To Think About
I want to talk about time zones and how much I hate them. Time zones suck and the worst part is we can’t do anything about it, I mean we all know it would be very convenient if every region in the world was in the same time zone.
If you didn’t know, the Earth isn’t like a flat piece of paper and the world has different time zones because it’s more like a large ball that doesn’t stay still. It’s always spinning around. So, if the sun is shining bright in one part of the world it means that it just set in some other part, just rose in another part and it is also nowhere to be seen in another. I’m not an expert but I’m pretty sure that’s why we have different time zones in different parts of the world.
Okay, so now we know that time zones exist and they suck. “What are the solutions?” You ask. And I say there is only one theory I can think of and it won’t work. That theory is to put the world’s entire population in one region. At the time of writing the world’s population is about 8.1 billion. China is the country that currently has the largest population, about 1.4 billion. Many people believe that 1.4 billion is too high a population for one country. China even tried a so-called ‘one child policy’ in 1979 and it didn’t work. Now I want you to think about trying to put 8.1 billion people in a section of a region that’s too small for 1.4 billion. You can’t. Remember, this is about time zones. So actually we would have to put 8.1 billion people in a region that only covers the East Coast of the United States or Nigeria. It can’t be done. The next time you wake up at 7:00 AM before going to work at 9:00 keep in my mind that someone in another part of the world has already been at work for 5 hours. One thing to also consider is that the world’s population is probably not going to stay at 8.1 billion forever. Even if you could somehow end worldwide reproduction it would also guarantee that the human race will be extinct in about 90 years give or take. People die. Also, humans aren’t the only living creatures on Earth capable of reproduction but that’s for another time.
