I recently completed a project where I recapped the full God of War franchise.

The journey of completing this project was long but it was also fun. God of War is full of intense moments and dense in mythology.

In this article, I will list my Top 3 Favorite Moments from all games.

HOW TO PLAY THE GAMES IN ORDER

Before we begin, let me list the God of War games in case you want to play them.

  1. God of War: Ascension (2013)
  2. God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008)
  3. God of War (2005)
  4. God of War: Ghost of Sparta (2010)
  5. God of War: Betrayal (2007). This is a mobile game.
  6. God of War 2 (2007)
  7. God of War 3 (2010)
  8. God of War: A Call from the Wilds (2018). This was a text-based game that is no longer available.
  9. God of War (2018)
  10. God of War Ragnarok (2022)

And now, let’s move to my favorite moments.

HOW KRATOS BECOMES THE GHOST OF SPARTA

Even though he had won many wars while he was still a mortal, Kratos was eventually defeated in battle by the Barbarians.

Just as he is about to be killed by the Barbarian King, Kratos calls the name of Ares, the Greek God of War, and says he will dedicate his life to him if the Olympian God destroys his enemies.

Ares intervenes, kills the Barbarian army and Kratos becomes his loyal servant. The Olympian God wants to make Kratos the ultimate killing machine, so he comes up with a plan.

He sends Kratos and his Spartan army to invade a village in his name but he also tricks Kratos to kill his wife and daughter.

When he does so and their bodies burn in a temple, the oracle of the village appears and she curses Kratos. The curse causes the ashes of his wife and daughter to be fastened on his body, giving him the characteristic white look and making him known as the Ghost of Sparta.

PANDORA IS THE KEY

Kratos is on a quest to kill Zeus but in order to do so, he has to retrieve Pandora’s Box from the Flame of Olympus. The problem is nobody can touch this Flame, not even Gods.

If he wants to get Pandora’s Box, he needs to get Pandora. Kratos travels to the Underworld to meet Hephaestus, who is Pandora’s father.

The smith God narrates his story and reveals that he created Pandora’s Box to contain the Evils of the world.

But with the Box created, Hephaestus also created a key for it. The key took a life on its own and became Pandora. Pandora and Hephaestus grew to love each other as a father and daughter and the divine Blacksmith would later lie to Zeus in order to save his daughter from him, which led to the King of Gods banishing him in Hades.

Wonderful narrative.

RAGNAROK IS A BEING

In the last game of the franchise, God of War: Ragnarok, Kratos and his allies are on the verge of war with Asgard, meaning Odin, Thor, and the other Norse Gods around them.

As the main characters prepare, they find out that Ragnarok is actually a creature. Kratos and his son Atreus find the creature and they help it reach its full form.

Earlier, Atreus had read on a shrine that Ragnarok would only come for Asgard, not the whole world. So the creature did not exactly help them but rather fulfilled the prophecy.

Additionally, Kratos had killed a Norse God and had stolen his horn. Later when the main characters clash with Odin, Kratos sounds the horn and Ragnarok is awakened, coming to destroy Asgard.

FINAL WORDS

I really hope these narratives gave you the chills. Or at least, let’s hope you appreciate the creativity put into them.
