Job Interviews: How to get a job without a CV application
It occurred to me recently that the youth are always told to build their careers escape the imprisonment of student loan debt, find their one and only soul mate and lastly find a good paying job.
That is all good and all however in South Africa we have a very unique situation whereby more than 70% of students graduating end up finding it difficult to get a job or even worse get jobs they had initially not studied for.
The real question is why is that so?
Many of them have this preconceived notion of the pay they are worth, the ideal type of job they deserve and get obsessed with the idea after graduating of now being able to get paid to work.
If we get deeper to this notion it stems from all of the financial, career, and personal pressures that they we end up having no time to discover what we love most, value and impact we want to make in the workplace.
What the youth does not understand is that this whole thing of I am just going to upload my CV on the internet and see what happens then after 6 months go past still nothing has occurred.
You ought to be always in control of your destiny and actions by picking out exactly who, where and who you want to work for then figure out how you going to get their attention for your job request (once again this requires learning life skills and being creative).
The point is never depend on anyone to achieve your goals and dreams including that job you want in fact the government feeds off students complaining about not getting jobs because they are now able to act in disguise as if there are doing their work meanwhile a lot of politicians are motivated by self-interest pursuits.
Look around you all the successful people in this country are very flexible and not dependent on one form of income or job so it is time you prepare your job search by writing down exactly the job you want and figuring out a way of getting it.
Take example the Billionaire Robert Smith on how he cold called a company for almost 6 months until they called him back for an interview because they knew he was persistent.
At the end of the day who eventually got the job? He did
Stop worrying about what your parents will say about doing some job you did not study for, just as long as you are learning skills and developing yourself and knowledge.
Education is good but the real value is to be educated in life skills.
Your CV is just a piece a paper nothing else, tell me who will get the interview first? the person who applies online or the person who actively goes to the company office and asks for an interview immediately?.
You not competing with the rest of jobs applicants you are competing with yourself to sell your value to a company. Truth is if you can guarantee a company value and revenue they will hire you immediately cause their survival depends on it.
That is why you find here in South Africa foreigners tend to do well more than South Africans at work due to having clear purpose and gaining skills for having the willingness to succeed and persistence.
There is a saying that in life if you can not depend on your knowledge then you ought to depend on your persistence.
When I go out of college I came out with an Industrial Psychology Honours degree and worked as an HR intern at Discovery. Now I have found my passion which is Information Technology and Sales.
Be flexible, you not a tree
The point is you do not need to have all the answers right now despite hearing many people say find and do what you love but I am here to tell you that it is okay to continously be curious about other ventures and interests outside your preferred choice
Stay focused,
