The parable is inconsistent. A sophisticated and powerful intelligence as described in the parable would understand, that maximising paperclips is a stupid task, would probably refuse to work on it (or do only the minimum to not be fired), and instead would work on much more interesting things (like preventing the universe of collapse/heat death etc. ).
And to address the side note about capitalism: Some humans also understand, that maximising money is a stupid task…
