Thats one way to see it why they lost the Conference Finals… In my opinion Billy Donovan is an unbelivably talented coach but Durant and Westbrook didnt hold on to the coaches successful strategy in clutch moments. If you look at the 3 last games OKC lost, in the 4th quarters Westbrook and especially Durant went to the one on one iso plays and wanted to decide the games and they lost all of them! They wanted to be the hero as they did in the previous 5 years… Durants problem is as you wrote it, that he wants (and believes that he is) to be the greatest of all time. His shooting is incredible, and if he sticks to the teamplay he creates a lot of good opportunities for his teammates. But sorry to say this, but ykevin Durant lacks Offensive IQ and the will for teamplay. His egoism stopps him from winningg titles! Look at Stephen Curry, he involves night after night his teammates and creates a lot of good opportunities for them. When he feels he has no touch he doesnt force any shot.
And just to say, during the first three wins against the Warriors, the refs gave Westbrook and Durant every possible call when they drove to the basket. Half of them wouldnt have been called if they would have judged those plays as in Game 6 and 7 or as in Game 1 of the Finals. Neverthenless OKC would have won the Finals against Cleveland, because Clevelans lacks defensive IQ: they can run with heads down like bulls after Curry and Thompson (Dellavedova, Shumpert) but why were so many Warriors players for seconds open right under the basket? JR Smith and LeBron lack help defense and forget about players they guard.
Durants best choice (not for Nike) would be to stick with the amazing Billy Donovan and hold on to his strategy. Like that you will win titles very soon Kevin!
