Great article, Zat, thank you, always a pleasure to read your thoughts.
I often used to bring an analogy from physics to explain this situation: for two protons to merge and create a nucleus of helium, they need to overcome a very strong resistance of the electric field between them. Protons need to be brought really close to each other for the nuclear force to take over and form a new entity, emitting a lot of energy along the way. That’s how stars work, basicly.
Our public selves seem to work like this electric field, keeping us at a distance from each other and preventing the possible fusion and all the good things, which could come from it. And there usually must be some very strong outer force, e.g. a strong sexual attraction or some very tough period of life gone through together, which would bring two selves close enough for this inner fusion to start its magic.
