Redefining Smartness
Bridgette Adu-Wadier

I’ve always thought there were many kinds of smart. there’s educated smart and street start and emotional intelligence and, even within those educated smarties, there are different kinds of brains. I’ve felt stupid among financial whizzes, but felt wise and profound among fellow lovers of literature or history.

my dad is this great brain where he is creative and writes poetry and sings and acts (he’s a great talent) and is a quick wit, but he also enjoys the sciences and does complicated math in his head (envy him as I do, please). but he’s really not all that educated. he comes from a long line of uneducated people and he only obtained a Bachelor’s degree through the GI Bill. his brain works on another level and that is natural, but he never had the tools to make much out of it professionally.
