Abandonment
We all feel abandoned by God
And we project that feeling into the stories of our lives
As though it was a breakup, or bad parents, or a job lost
Something simpler
If we become aware of the core wound,
Abandonment
We suddenly feel that maybe God would talk to us
And become aware of an
Intense
Unending
Shame
That he probably wouldn’t want to
So we seek to earn his approval
In various quests
Self-abnegating, excoriating, or aggrandizing
There are many directions
To run
Finally we tire, because
It will never be enough
And we see that the others around us
Are weary too, and sorrowful
And we finally notice
How sad they are, and how lovely
In their pathos, and various
Scurryings for favor
And a rush of love pours
Forth, further, toward
And we See,
That’s how God saw us all along
And we are finally
Ready
To have the conversation we’ve
Been longing for
Now
