About Brett Kavanaugh

Today was the second day of the confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh to take the position of Associate Chief Justice and I am heartbroken.

Before we move forward I will warn you, this is a polarizing political piece and I understand that not everyone will agree with me but I ask that you read this entire thing through. And if you are someone I love and know personally and you disagree with what I have to say please know that I still respect you and cherish you I just cannot back down on this one.

Kavanaugh being appointed to the highest court possible in the united States is immensely dangerous for all women, minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

He is a staunch conservative who doesn’t believe in a woman’s right over her own body, believes birth control medication is ‘abortion inducing medication’, and looks like an all around douche.

Regardless of your stance on abortion, I do not believe it is our place to tell anyone what to do with their bodies. There is a separation of church and state for this very reason and even though I identify as Christian I don’t think I have the right to tell anyone what they can or cannot do.

Real Pro-Lifers adopt children not shame women.

And before I move on, let me say that there is nothing wrong with being conservative but there is something wrong with stripping citizens of their constitutional rights.

The edge of your freedom ends where another’s starts.

Kavanaugh’s nomination was a PURELY political move and that is already something to fear. Supreme Court Justices are by nature and job description not supposed to be PARTISAN.

And it doesn’t help that all Republicans can say in favor of Kavanaugh is that he’s a “carpool dad” and like the “guy next door”.

(Side Note: John Cornyn, you make me embarrassed to be a Texan and I hope you get voted out of office when your re-election rolls around. Stop describing Kavanaugh as a carpool dad you idiot! AND YOU CAN’T JUST TRY TO HAVE A SENATOR FIRED BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE! Cory Booker, I am sorry on behalf of all progressive Texans.)

Kavanaugh also had the AUDACITY to turn his face away from the father of a Parkland victim!

I’m honestly disgusted.

And Ted Cruz! You think I didn’t hear you waste your question on BASKETBALL? You better enjoy your last Supreme Court Justice hearing because Beto O'Rourke is winning this November!

And so to end this little rant I just want to say one more thing.

Yesterday Senator Grassley had to basically talk over the protests of his fellow Senators while they expressed their concerns over the paper dump they had received the night before.

While he did this he said something that stuck with me.

He said that his wife and daughters should be proud of their father or husband for the nomination and I would like to offer a differing opinion.

I hope that his two daughters grow to hate the positions their father has taken.

I hope they grow up to despise what their father has argued for.

I hope they grow to be ashamed of their father’s legacy.

And I hope they grow up to see that in their eyes of their father they will always be second class citizens, less than men, and not capable of making their own decisions.

And all of that might be a low blow but we left decency behind in 2016.

Brett Kavanaugh will be appointed to the Supreme Court and it will have devastating effects for the rest of the foreseeable future because the Court is forever.

The fact that we let this happen means that women are still being viewed as second class citizens and that they are not able to make their decisions over their bodies as any adult male can.

This is devastating for women everywhere and I am sad for myself, my sisters, frends and one day maybe children.

I am sad that by some cosmic joke Brett Kavanaugh has two daughters that he will never view as equal to their male peers.

Mark my words, we will regret this immensely.

Goodnight and good luck America,
