The Costa Brava (north of Catalonia)

The Costa Brava owes its name “Wild Coast” to its stormy layout. Its nature, climate, history, the picturesqueness of its ports and some towns have a worldwide reputation.

It has 4 regions: L’Alt Empordá, Baix Empordá, La Selva and Girones.

The Costa Brava is made up of a multitude of small coastal towns and fishing ports such as Cadaqués, Dalí’s place of residence, or Calella de Palafrugell, where you can hear habaneras in a festival that is held annually and that reminds us of the nostalgia and the feelings of the sailors emigrated to Cuba.

In the 200 kilometers of coastline that forms the Costa Brava, you will come across the charm of typical Mediterranean towns such as L’Escala, Palamos and Sant Feliu de Guixols nestled in the mountains, surrounded by vegetation and descending to the sea and the coves from Begur and Palafrugell.

On the Costa Brava you can visit the Cap de Creus Natural Park or the Aiguamolls Natural Park in L’Empordà, the Illes Medes in L’Estartit, the city of Rosas and the Greco-Romanic ruins of Empuries in L’Escala or the cities medieval Pals and Peratallada, the ancient city of Tossa de Mar and the splendid botanical gardens of Blanes and Lloret de Mar.

The beach and many other distractions will fill your time on the Costa Brava which has an average annual temperature of 17º, moderate rainfall and 2,500 hours of sunshine per year.

L’Alt Empordà is located in the northeastern extremity of the Iberian Peninsula, the place where the Costa Brava begins to be designated with its small coastal towns such as Port Bou and Collera.

Its capital, Figueras, is world famous for the Dalí Museum.

L’Alt Empordà is a region marked by the proximity of the sea and the Pyrenees, we recommend visiting the Cap de Creus Natural Park, the ruins of Ampurias, the medieval city of Sant Martí d’Empuries, the swamps of the Aiguamolls de L’Empordà, Cadaqués and Sant Pere de Rodes.
