I like the general guidelines I’ve known in the Catholic Church: tithe to reflect the first 10% of your income (the “first fruits”), split between the parish and other charities. While I generally mix up the charity part each year between different organizations and people who need extra help, it is nice to tell street and phone solicitors that I’ve already decided the charities we give to.
