Getting Out of Your Own Way

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately… so many people cannot get out of their own way and it seems to consume their lives, making them unhappy and feeling stuck. Rather then venting about their problem, and moving on to a solution phase, they stay in the venting phase and adopt a victim mentality. Hence, they start wallowing in their own self-pity and it seems to consume them.

NOTE: I am not talking about mentally ill people with true chemical imbalances or those who are victims of terribly traumatic things. I’m talking about the day to day B.S. that people let consume them and it all adds up.

What a happy person understands, is that you vent, get it off your chest, and then move to a constructive phase. Even a small step, is a step in the “happier” direction. Sometimes it’s not even coming up with a solution, it’s changing your mentality or outlook on the situation.

I just wanted to write this, because this tendency to drive what I perceive as an issue toward a more productive place has served me well in life, and I tend to be a pretty happy person. Hopefully this will inspire someone else to move on from whatever perceived issue is holding them back.
