LEADERSHIP VS. MANAGEMENT: WHY WE NEED BOTH

In recent years, I have seen and read tons of articles and books and pictures and quotes and comments about Leadership. Everybody has a say, everybody has a recipe and yet everybody talks about it. If you google the word “leadership” you will get something like 6,060,000,000 results!

Why this big concern by everyone? Why nobody talks about management anymore?

In this article, I would like to stop the discussion Leadership = Good and Management = Bad. And most of all I would like to show you that in every organization we need both leadership and management (which does not mean being bossy). And why we may need more of grit and passion less of overhyped, over valued and over talked emotional intelligence (EQ). Yes, it’s helping Daniel Goleman to sell more copies of his books and get thousands of dollars for every speech he delivers out of a 1996 theory, but is it really meaningful? Do you seriously think that Steve Jobs had an elevated EQ level? Or Reed Hastings has it high?
