Thank you for pointing this out once more how important it is in RPGs to let the players make the choices. Being a GM for 30 years myself I have switched long ago to the so called Sandbox-Style of playing, which means offering interesting conflicts, locations and opportunities but never tell the players which way to go. Technically I have solved this by giving characters goals. But goals can change from one moment to the other — and this is allowed. Happy Gaming!
