What I’ve Learned in 2015
This was the year of change for me from moving around a lot to finally immersing myself in the craziness of college life. It was a roller coaster to say the least, but definitely a pivotal year that I won’t forget. Here’s a long list of the stuff I have learned in 2015:
I learned that moving sucks, but there is actually a lot of good that comes out of it. With social media and technology being the greatest (and sometimes worst) thing to ever happen to communication, I’m able to keep in touch with friends and relatives, while making new friends. Amazing.
I learned that dogs are the best life forms in existence. What did we ever do to deserve such compassionate creatures? I swear they are only on this planet for the greater good and nothing else.
I learned to appreciate alone time. In past years, I was so focused on being around people all the time in fear of feeling lonely. However, 2015 taught me to enjoy my own company.
I learned that you are responsible for your emotions. It’s easy for us to get caught up with what we are feeling all the time, but sometimes it’s best to put things in perspective and change the way you feel for the better.
I learned that ramen noodles is always an acceptable meal or snack at anytime of the day. I can thank college for that.
I learned how important it is to cherish family time. They are the only ones who are going to be there for you until the end.
I learned that everybody (including me) has an ego they are so adamant about protecting, but sometimes being selfless is the most rewarding thing ever.
I learned that naps are a blessing and a curse. Nothing is worse than waking up groggy from a nap and not knowing where you are or what year it is.
I learned that friends come and go. This was a big one for me because I’m so protective over friendships. However, some people are only temporarily in your life and there’s always a hidden purpose for why they were a part of your life in the first place.
I learned how much more fun college is than high school. If you are reading this and currently in high school, trust me on this one.
I learned that reindeer are actually real animals. I always thought they were fictional until my friends took me to the zoo on my 18th birthday and I encountered my first real reindeer. Why it took me 18 years to realize this is beyond me.
I learned that being happy should be the number one goal in life.
I learned how addicting Netflix can be. It’s kind of frightening how many episodes of one TV show I can watch in a day.
I learned the importance of managing your time. I’m still working on this one, but more so than previous years. Procrastination is a killer (not literally) and it’s habit I’m trying to break.
I learned about how intriguing plants are. Botany is actually a very interesting class. I’m serious.
I learned that writing your thoughts and feelings down really helps if you are ever experiencing anxiety or just feeling down.
I learned that taking risks (the good kind) is always a good idea.
I learned that New Hampshire is one of the coolest states around. There’s so much to do, it’s insane.
I learned that Kansas is also a really cool state. It’s only dull if you don’t make an effort to find stuff to do.
I learned that people in the Midwest are far more nicer than the Northeast. That’s probably really subjective to say, but based off personal experience, it’s true in my opinion.
I learned that sometimes things don’t go as planned and that’s completely okay. If life was all planned out, then it would be so boring and predictable.
I learned how fun it is to write a blog. Even if nobody reads this, I’m having an absolute blast sharing my thoughts somewhere.
Obviously there is a lot more stuff I learned this year, but my fingers are getting sore from typing. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing this! I’m excited for what 2016 will have in store for myself and everyone else! Stay tuned.
