It’s your first day at tawk.to, welcome to the team! We want to make sure you have all the support you need to succeed in your role so we’ve put together a quick summary of the tools we use and a little about us in general.

Product Vision

tawk.to is a 100% free live chat software app. It’s important for us that you understand this is our mindset, it’s free now and always will be. However, that doesn’t mean our customers are using an inferior product, we want to deliver the best live chat out there. Our CEO once said “You shouldn’t have to pay to chat with the visitors on your own website. They’re your visitors!” This sums up pretty well what should inspire and motivate you on your projects.

Design culture

Here at tawk.to we take Design and UX very serious and we’re always trying to improve our product, our workflow and our own communication. The whole team is remote and communication, efficiency and consistency are vital for our business.

As a part of the design team, you’ll visually represent our company and your mission will be to deliver the best product with the best UX out there. We have a legacy and a fast-growing fan base, check out what they say about us here at Google Play.

Essential tools

At tawk.to we have a few tools that we use on a regular basis for all projects. New tools may come and go, but for now, this is what we use to make the magic happen.

Slack

Slack is a team collaborative messaging app and we use it 24/7 to keep in touch as well as to discuss many topics, from work stuff to random fun memes. If you haven’t worked with slack before read this article.

Figma

Figma is a browser-based UI and UX design application. It has excellent design, prototyping, and code-generation tools. It’s currently the industry’s leading interface design tool, with robust features that support teams working on every phase of the design process. You should definitely check it out the video below.

After Effects

After Effects has been around since forever, in the last few years it’s been serving a different purpose than the one you may be familiar with. It’s now being used as a critical component of the user experience and can be used to create the kind of transitions and small interaction details that not only delight users but also serve a functional purpose.

After Effects can help you to sell your ideas. You may be thinking there are a bunch of other prototyping tools out there that are also easy to use, and you’re right, there are! The difference is, those tools only give you the default gestures and transitions that are common on iOS and Android devices. If you want something more unique, then After Effects gives you the flexibility and freedom to quickly create a prototype of your animation and get your point across.

Zoom

Zoom is a really easy to use video conference platform that we use every week for our reviews and feedback talks with managers. Zoom is your friend, it’s simple and it will save you a lot of time when communicating.

Loom

Loom is another really useful tool. You can use it to capture your screen, record your front-facing camera and narrate all at once then instantly share with a simple link. No switching apps or upload required. Use it every time you feel you need feedback on design or want to explain a concept to a teammate. Here are some ways to use it properly. Remember we’re a remote team so timing is important. You should never wait or keep your thoughts and questions to yourself, think collaboratively and share.

Whimsical

Whimsical is a well-crafted flowchart tool. We use it in the early stages of projects but it could potentially be used for much more.

ZeroHeight

ZeroHeight is an online platform that helps us document our design system. Once we import our Figma file, it generates a live design system with a very well presented side-navigation menu that smooths out the process and presents it for the whole team. It’s collaborative and everybody gets to see consistency and how we visually structure the system.

Confluence

Confluence is the tool we use when we get a new project briefing. All the info we need regarding the project, assets, links, user and passwords will be handed to you in confluence.

Trainual

Trainual is a platform to organize “how you do, what you do”. As a Design team, we document every process, apps we use, design vision, things to pay attention to while creating for tawk.to. Basically, all procedures in one place to automate onboarding and training. Processes are super important in remote teams, having people working around the world in different timers zones means having properly established processes to refer to is a must so you never have to wait for an answer on how to do something.

Dribbble

Dribbble is a great place to find inspiration but also to keep an eye on the market, competitors and similar businesses — on how they solve common UX UI problems and learn new techniques (motion or visual). In the future, we’ll put together a tawk.to dribbble team so we can also impact the design community with our work.

Product Hunt

Product Hunt is another fount of inspiration but for UX and user-flow as well as design. When you see a whole finished product, you’ll have a much better understanding of the product design and the amount of work that can go into it.
