I think that the masses will have to be slowly introduced through home use first, with living room and car personal assistants such as Echo and Google Now @ Home (whatever its called). Once people get used to talking to these assistants in their own home, and being able to talk naturally across the room, instead of having to find your phone, then hit a button to talk, it will naturally transition to the outside world.
