I would say it’s up to 2 elements: 1. The Why of that task 2. A rather high level on Conscientiousness and Openess to Experience (Big Five Personality Model). The first is needed to understand the contribution of that task and the effects of not doing it — i would say that someone is more likely to finish something when it’s linked to a higher form of impact. The second is a set of individual traits — in self-managed organisations tasks tend to be kind of fuzzy and maybe abstract so that’s why the openess to experience couple with an internal orientation to fulfill commitments. For instance the CLOU we had to do — we got a framework, some examples, but not necessarily a clearly defined set of steps to carry out. The task itself was to answer a some open ended questions. If I as a person need detailed steps on what to do and how to do it, i would say it’s difficult to navigate in self-managed environment. Not impossible, but definitely uncomfortable.
