Some people love it and some people hate it. Very few know the man who divided the world in two and who managed to raise so many controversies.
The man who made this decision in the 60s is a Greek immigrant from Canada.
The man responsible for this invention is called Sotirios "Sam" Panopoulos.
He arrived in Canada in 1954 on a boat.
In 1960, this man born in August 1934 in the village of Vourvoura opened a small chain of restaurants in Ontario with two of his brothers.
He sold burgers and then pizza which became very popular at the time.
With each passing year the business became more and more profitable.

How was Hawaiian pizza created?

This pizza was the result of a spontaneous experiment. Out of curiosity, one day, Panopoulos decided to add canned pineapple to a pizza just to find out what the result would be. "We just put it on, just for the fun of it [to] see how it was going to taste," Sam Panopoulos told the BBC in a 2017 interview he gave shortly before he passed away.
He and his brothers liked the taste.
