Introducing Control
Web monetization is becoming increasingly challenging, due to the decline of the banner ads model, so new solutions have appeared to tackle this problem, but none of them has been able to satisfy a large number of different content creators.
Product reviewers have on mostly abandoned banner ads, choosing to stick with affiliate marketing; popular video creators have stopped monetizing with ads and instead switched to sponsorships, affiliate marketing or crowdfunding platforms like Patreon.
As long as there are businesses selling products and people willing to buy them, popular content creators will always find a way to monetize their content, but that isn’t always the case for creators with small and medium audiences, which constitute the vast majority of the web.
Control aims to solve this through a universal monetization platform that easily integrates into any kind of web page and assumes the form of a comment system. Content creators are credited Control Tokens every time a visitor upvotes their content and each visitor can decide how much their upvote is worth, with the default being the equivalent of $0.01 in Control tokens for posts and $0.002 for comments.
Control is meant to be the most flexible monetization platform on the Internet. There is no limit to the value of an upvote, allowing content creators potentially monetize posts that solve very hard problems that very few people face and receive large donations from a few users. Creators can target different demographics for different types of content and use different monetization strategies at the same time.
Users can withdraw their tokens at any time and exchange them on the market for fiat money. Control provides a unique advantage to content creators allowing them to monetize content that would otherwise be hard to exploit such as:
- Websites with audiences below 10,000 monthly visitors
- Websites with small audiences and one or few viral posts
- Websites that have a hard time acquiring a loyal audience
- Popular websites/channels that want to maintain impartiality
and many more.
In the following article we’ll expand on how the Control platform works as well as provide more information on the launch date and ICO.
