The Cool Girl trap is real. I fell into it in a strip club when I was 25.

“…the idea terrified me. But the Cool Girl had to go along.”

If you don’t want to do something, don’t. What you did was give in to peer pressure. Because of the diverse nature of the world in which we live, there will always be peer pressure. It might be to go to a strip club or to go to church. Doesn’t matter, don’t do it if you don’t want to.

As for the epic failure of your attempt to blend in (albeit by doing something you didn’t want to), I lay that squarely at the feet of Bobbie. Even if you were the archetypal “cool girl”, Bobbie’s comment would have been completely improper. Bobby, you’re an ass.

Finally, I question this “cool girl” epithet. Gender shouldn’t be a factor in doing what you stand for. If you don’t like strip clubs, that’s not about you being an uncool girl. Some guys don’t visit strip clubs for reasons that have nothing to do with their gender. You don’t go to strip clubs because you don’t like them. Finis.
