Love these thoughts Benjamin. What repeatedly blows me away about the parable of the Good Samaritan is that it wasn’t a Jew helping an injured Samaritan; it was a Samaritan, the enemy, showing what it is to obey God’s command to love your neighbour as yourself. As you say this would have shocked Jesus’ listeners and undermined their whole ‘chosen people’ worldview. I believe that read right, this parable will continue to undermine a worldview of security-through-membership that often traps us Christians.
