Yes, it’s interesting to look at how distance, both physical and emotional, impedes our ability to confidently choose the “best” option.

It is also important to deconstruct the thought experiment through a philosophical lens before examining it through that of psychology. I think that “intuition that there’s more to this than just distance” is just that — something at play here other than just how each option makes us feel. It makes us wonder if there is a correct moral choice that remains constant regardless of how we feel or rationalize our options.
