Our second day was much hillier than the first. Here’s the high school in the morning where everyone was camping.

We started with a 25 mile downhill straightaway, which was fantastic. We burned down the hill at about 22 miles an hour. Then we climbed into the hills. In the morning, we climbed 1200 feet in 42 miles, but because the first 25 were downhill, we effectively climbed 1200 feet in 17 miles. We started in pastures and then went into the woods. We had lunch at a great spot with a really good selection of food. I had a Polish dog with some sides, a slice of apple pie, and chocolate milk.

The hills continued in the afternoon — we climbed 1000 feet in just 32 miles. Terrain was a mix of woods at the start and then rolling farmland. This was really tough, and the hills are going to continue tomorrow. After we finished, Dad and I stopped for ice cream — delicious!

We’re staying in these great cabins in Lake City.

We ate dinner in Lake City, joined by Joyce and Pete (Aunt Kim’s parents) and Uncle Mark and Aunt Laurie, up from Indiana.

Tomorrow is going to be the toughest day, so lots of rest, icy hot, and Aleve for me tonight!
