Console Accomplished!

Okay, so maybe that title is a bit of an overstatement. I am a far cry from an expert at this point, however I did finish the rest of the Treehouse “Console Foundations” module. In addition to the navigation and basic file/folder creation/relocation, I now know how to create users and groups, change permissions individually or at once using the octal numeric system, pipe processes together, route outputs into a file, and install/uninstall all on the console.

The article I linked to in my last post, which I was having trouble parsing before completing the Treehouse module, is now entirely comprehensible, but I think I’ll begin compiling my own “cheatsheet” of commands and syntax I have learned, organized in my own way, to use as reference until the commands become second nature to me.

I really enjoyed the pacing and organization of the Treehouse tutorial, and the built in console allowed me to experiment without worrying about blowing up (or some more realistic, but equally catastrophic outcome) my own computer. I will definitely remember that site as a resource for expanding my coding knowledge beyond the scope of my Iron Yard course, but for now I am up to my elbows in new concepts and commands. I will revisit these videos before the course when working on the aforementioned “cheat sheet” (I am confident I will remember all the commands applications, if not their specific names and syntax), but for now, on to my next item of pre-work: learning some basic HTML and CSS!
