Eo, I agree. It’s hard to cover everything in one article. My point here is just that Google’s cloud is being overlooked and it’s costing big bucks.
I find CFOs and CEOs get this argument very quickly. In most cases we demonstrate the difference by just building a solution. Keep in mind we typically engage with business and then work with IT, not the other way around.
Looking at a 500 person IT organisation though, I generally see 30% of staff wouldn’t exist if the company was born after the internet. That is, they’re looking after infrastructure in some way (around 15 roles last time I did an audit at one of my clients).
I believe that half of this could be addressed in less than 2 years, based on previous experience as a Telco CIO rationalising technologies and processes.
If you do the maths and add
I’ll never try to convince a C-level executive to move everything to server-less by the way, it doesn’t make sense.
But if you build something new on anything but server-less it’s like throwing a bin full of cash out the window.
